Challenges of Pregnancy Fatigue

What is pregnancy fatigue?

Lack of energy, feeling like you don’t want to do anything along with sleepiness are common during pregnancy. Some mothers retain all energy without any changes but most are extremely tired throughout their pregnancy. Fatigue can also indicate anemia, but it is normal to feel weary when pregnant. Hormones affect pregnancy mainly because of the elevated levels of progesterone that provokes symptoms that otherwise would indicate a disease. Your organism is working hard to foster changes responsible for the development of the fetus. Most fatigue is present during the first three months of pregnancy and at the end. Tiredness usually disappears towards the middle of your pregnancy.

Accepting changes in your body

There is no way of avoiding body changes that are not detrimental to the health of the woman or the baby. The only way to deal with them is to accept them. When feeling tired it may be difficult to work. Finding time to rest or planning your day in such a way that allows you to find time to relax is the only way to cope.

Maintain your healthy routines

You need to sleep the appropriate amount of time that assures enough rest. It may be difficult to get enough rest when your belly is growing. Your baby may exert pressure on some internal organs in you body, including veins. When sleeping on your back it is better to elevate your position by using a few pillows instead of one. To fall asleep sooner it is important to eat at least two hours before going to bed.

Eating healthy

Avoid snacks from fast food shops but concentrate on cooked meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and mineral water. Carbohydrates are digested slowly allowing for the maintenance of appropriate levels of glucose in your blood. In this way your brain can continue producing serotonin that is responsible for you mood. Only a very limited amount of coffee or tea can be drunk, but it is best to avoid coffee altogether. Eating frequently in small amounts is healthier to ensure the same level of glucose in your blood. Drinking lots of fluids is recommended, but avoid drinking before going to bed.

Exercise with caution

Exercising is healthy during pregnancy but should not be excessive. Simple walking exercise and even swimming can relax your mind. All physical activity improves your blood circulation, energy levels, including your well being. Such exercises improve your ability to deal with fatigue. Exercises also help to deal with an apparent lack of oxygen through the diminished breathing ability. This sensation is only illusive.

Towards the middle of pregnancy after three months pass your physical and psychological condition improves. Mothers have more energy and better appetite. It is important to monitor health and mineral levels in your organism. During this time it is best to exercise even more to improve your circulation.

Fatigue at the end of pregnancy

Towards the end of your pregnancy tiredness may come back again because it is even more difficult to sleep due to the size of your stomach. Your feet may be sore due to cramps. It may be better to sleep more during the day. To ensure a good night sleep it may be helpful to take bath before going to bed, while avoiding lifting any objects that are even slightly heavy.
