Cipralex Antidepressant Medicine - Information, Side effects and uses of Cipralex 10 mg

Generic name of cipralex is escitalopram or escitalopram oxalate

Escitalopram is a selective inhibitor of serotonin Reuptake, related to Citalopram (Celexa, Cipramil, Seropram). Technically, Escitalopram is ' a cleaner ' version chemically of Citalopram. While Citalopram is a mixture of two molecules, identical except being images of mirror of other, Escitalopram is only the molecule which shows the action of antidepressant. (of the booklet of the information of the manufacturer: "Escitalopram is the pure S-enantiomer (isomer simple) of the citalopram derived from phthalane bicyclic racemic") Consequently, Escitalopram can have side effects slightly little and can even be slightly more effective.

Escitalopram is largely prescribed to help to treat the depression, and it is also employed in the treatment of the generalized disorder of concern. It is strongly selective in its action on the serotonin of neuro-transmitter and shows minimal effects on the neuronal reuptake of nopépinéphrine and dopamine.

How does it work?

Escitalopram increases the quantity of serotonin of neuro-transmitter in the brain by blocking the resorption of the serotonin of the synapse, having little effect of other receivers, which is why this is called a selective inhibitor of serotonin reuptake (SSRI). Escitalopram is directly derived from the citalopram of antidepressant (Celexa), by removing the component thérapeutiquement inactive of R-citalopram. R-citalopram is enantiomer, which is one of a pair of chemical compounds, put at the head by the S or the R -, of which the molecular structures have a report/ratio of mirror-image between them, also referred like stéréoisomères. This structure is a chemical product of synthesis and also characterizes other drugs of SSRI like the fluoxetine (Prozac).

Dosage

The amount recommended of escitalopram is 10mg/day. If the amount is climbed until 20mg/day, this should occur after one week at least. Escitalopram should be daily managed once, in morning or evening, with or without food.
