Cylert Pemoline Medicine - Information, Side effects and uses of Cylert

CYLERT (pemoline) is a central nervous system stimulant. Pemoline is structurally dissimilar to the amphetamines and methylphenidate.

Side effects of Cylert

  • Insomnia
  • Anorexia
  • Stomach ache,
  • skin rashes,
  • increased irritability,
  • mild depression,
  • nausea,
  • dizziness,
  • headache,
  • drowsiness, and
  • hallucinations

Precautions and warnings of Cylert

The treatment of drug is not indicated in all the cases of the behavioral syndrome characterized by moderated to the serious distractibility, with the short scale of an attention, the hyperactivity, emotive lability and the impulsivity.

It should consider only in the light of the history and of the evaluation complete of the child. The decision to prescribe the pemoline should depend on the evaluation of the doctor of the chronicity and the severity of the symptoms on the child and their suitability for his age.

The regulation should not depend only on the presence on one or more of the behavioral characteristics. When these symptoms are associated the acute reactions of effort, the treatment with the pemoline is not usually indicated.

The long-term effects of the pemoline in the children were not well established. Tests of function of liver should be carried out before and periodically during the therapy with the pemoline.

Drug should be stopped if anomalies are indicated and confirmed by tests of follow-up (see the harmful effects concerning of the reports/ratios of the tests of abnormal function of liver and the ictère).

Pemoline should be managed with prudence with the patients presenting the hepatic or renal function appreciably faded.

The interaction of the pemoline with other drugs was not studied at the man.

The patients who receive the pemoline at the same time as other drugs, particularly drugs with the activity of CNS, should be supervised carefully.

Cylert Overdose

Symptoms of over dose might include Confusion, Convulsions, Hallucinations, Tremors, Vomiting or high blood pressure. Seek medical attention if you think your child has taken an overdose.

CYLERT (pemoline) is supplied as tablets containing 18.75 mg, 37.5 mg or 75 mg of pemoline for oral administration. CYLERT is also available as chewable tablets containing 37.5 mg of pemoline.

FDA Warning

Because of its association with life threatening hepatic failure, CYLERT should not ordinarily be considered as first line drug therapy for ADHD. Because CYLERT provides an observable symptomatic benefit, patients who fail to show substantial clinical benefit within 3 weeks of completing dose titration, should be withdrawn from CYLERT therapy.
