Symptoms and Signs of Chlamydia
At least 50 per cent of men and maybe even more women have no symptoms. Chlamydia is often present with other sexually transmitted diseases and it is the symptoms of these that suggest chlamydia may be present. Occasionally there may be a discharge, lower abdominal pain, irregular periods or pain on urination. Symptoms of chlamydia may be similar in men and women.
In women, symptoms of chlamydia may include:
- An unusual vaginal discharge
- a pain or burning sensation when passing urine
- Bleeding after intercourse
- irritation and/or discharge from the anus
- Bleeding between menstrual periods
- Abdominal or pelvic pain
In men, symptoms of chlamydia may include:
- irritation and/or discharge from the anus
- Burning with urination
- Swollen and/or painful testicles
- a yellow or white discharge from the penis
- inflammation of the testicles and prostate gland.
