How to Store Seafood?

Seafood can be described as any sea animal that is served as suitable food for eating. Seafood is well known for its health and nutritional factors. The life of frozen seafood is longer at low enrapture. Following are recommended storage times for different types of fish:

Lean fish- 6 months
Medium-fat fish- 4 months
Fat fish- 2 months
Whole shellfish- 2 months
Shucked or shelled seafood- 3 months

What are the steps for storing seafood?

  • If you are going to use purchased seafood after 2 days store it the refrigerator.
  • Keep the cooked seafood in moisture proof paper or in an airtight container.
  • Don't refreeze any seafood products that has been thawed.
  • Don't keep cooked seafood in the original container which is used for storing raw seafood and don't keep raw and cooked seafood together.
  • Never keep cooked seafood outside the refrigerator for more than 30 minutes.

Steps to be remember while cooking seafood

  • Clean counter, cutting board, knives and utensils before starting preparation.
  • Rinse the lids of canned food before opening it.
  • All seafood must be cooked 145°F or hotter to kill the bacteria.
  • Microwave oven do not cook evenly, you have to stir and turn the food while cooking.
  • Hands should always be washed before handling food.
  • Divide the leftover food into two parts cool them and as soon as possible keep them in the refrigerator.
  • Do not overcook your seafood.
  • Before cooking wash the seafood with cold food to remove the dirt.
  • Do not cook food partially, it may allow bacteria to grow.
