How to get rid of Slugs?

Slugs are kind of mollusc which are descended from snails losing out their shells in the period of evolution. They are seen in and around the house hopelessly roaming around for something and it seems that their evolution is for nothing as they are nothing then nuisance. Slug’s skin is slimy and they appear watery to touch. They are practically distributed in two broad forms marine (or sea slugs) and terrestrial slugs which are the one found near your house.

How to get rid of Slugs?

Slugs are annoying because they will ruin your entire garden by chewing up small leaves and new shoots and that’s why the ways are developed to confiscate them

  1. Slugs like moist and damp places to hide and stuff their stomach so, as a rule you have to keep the place airy and avoid any clogged water. The best thing to achieve this is appropriate watering of the plants. Along with this make sure that the sunlight should reach the garden and trim the branches if you have long trees prohibiting sunlight.
  2. Another interesting method to kill them is the use of beer, it seems that these crawling creatures like its smell and get attracted towards it, so you can prepare a nice trap out of this beer. Just keep a container full with beer in the garden (it should be easy to crawl into) and wait for one day, you will see them floating in beer unable to escape from the bowl then you can throw it away from the area.
  3. Other alternative you have is the use of copper metal which is used to fend off the slugs from your garden. Keep anything made of copper but as per my experience wires work best, or you can try strips or scraps of copper to keep them out.
  4. You can go for slugs chase in the night time as they come out of their dormitory for feeding, then you can catch them single at a time and keep them in water bucket to let them die. You can do this without hesitation as slugs don’t bite and anyways use gloves to complete the task.
  5. An additional successful bait is cornmeal, put it in a container and keep it out in their vicinity now wait for a nightfall and watch in the morning you will observe dead bodies of slugs in the container as they will die after eating the cornmeal for sure.
  6. Even you can try out the salt method which is quite effective but has some side effects. Spread the salt where you have observed the slug’s activity earlier like spoiled leaves or soil and all of them will meet death due to the salt. The disadvantage is you cannot plant any trees in that area because it makes the soil less fertile which will not be able to support any other plant.
  7. If you have planted new saplings and worried about the slugs destruction then make a circular ring of sand around the plant, this will protect it from slugs as they won’t dare to cross this line because they know very well sand crystals will cut them off to call their death.
  8. To add into their misery some things you can spread in the surface which they just hate and never like to enter in the place are coffee grounds, egg shells, sharp stones and pine needles which work quite well to deter them.

Natural and Green ways to get rid of Slugs

  1. Buy some frogs to counter attack the slugs and the advantage of toad is they are not at all deleterious to the garden instead they will kill all the other small annoying organisms while giving you a big relief from the slugs.
  2. Even use the one wonder product diatomaceous earth yes its useful here too. Spread the earth around the trees and plants and as the slug has slimy body they will get killed due to the stones present in the earth.
