How to get rid of Spider Mites?

Spider mite is a kind of garden pest which is equally dangerous to your indoor or outdoor plants. They are so lethal that if you get the infestation your plant will suffer miserable and the reason behind this is their mode of action. The spider mites are tiny spiders that live on plats by sucking all the nutritious fluid of plants needed for their growth. This leaves the plant dry and weak and if you notice closely you will see small webs of spiders beneath the leaf attracting other insects. It is this nature why it becomes necessary to get rid of them as early as possible to save the plant.

How to get rid of Spider Mites?

  • The first thing comes in our mind is how to recognize their infestation, the simple way to know about their presence is to look out for yellowish spots on leaf, these will be small but at many places if you find one then unfortunately your garden is at risk follow these tricks to conquer the invasion.
  • Unlike other pests spider mites need dry weather to cultivate and if the temperature soars up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit then this will be the most likely situation where you can have spider mites in your plants. You can search for the trails like spots by magnifying glass as early detection is the key in this case.
  • The first step you can take is to raise humidity making them impossible to live, this you can achieve by employing humidifier in the room. It will work in the case of indoor plants if you don’t have humidifier then use air conditioner for the desired effect.
  • Make use of insecticides containing pyrethrum as they work best on the spider mite and will also kill the eggs along with the developed ones. This is safe for plants if the plant does not bear any eatables as this will not affect the plant in any way and also kills the demon.
  • These sprays you should use repeatedly and several times a day. For example apply the spray 3 times a day for 10 days as this will be more than sufficient to kill all the residuals of spider mites.
  • You can buy some lady bugs as their predators and these are available with local gardener, place them on the plants and wait for some time. Lady bugs will consume all the spider mites present in your garden and they are not at all harmful for your plants so don’t worry about that.
  • If you don’t have any information about the insecticides then prepare your own spray, this you can make by using detergent with water you just have to mix them and fill in spray bottles. You have to make repetitive use for good results quite identical to the artificial sprays.
  • Another lethal option you have is the spray made out of alcohol. For this mix one part of alcohol to one part of water and spray on the leaves. The advantage of this spray is, the mites will get killed when come in contact with alcohol and plants will not get affected as it will evaporate in air after some time.

Natural and green ways to get rid of Spider Mites

  1. You can pick them by hand but only when the number is small, the benefit it contains is you can avoid any spray on plants by making use of this method. Just peep each leaf by the glass and when the spider mite appears just pick it by hand and keep it in soap water. Remember; do this only by using thick rubber gloves.
  2. If nothing works for you then use miticide it is more fatal then insecticide and will definitely eradicate all the spiders from your sapling. Follow the instructions on label regarding its use and apply this only after 5 days gap.
