High Blood Pressure - Symptoms, Causes, Signs, Risk, Treatment and Prevention of High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is the condition that occurs when a person has chronic elevated pressure in the arteries. High blood pressure, also called hypertension, can cause symptoms such as dizziness and headaches but often shows no symptoms at all. While it may show no outward symptoms, it can cause stroke, heart attack and other health problems. That’s why it’s important to get your blood pressure checked regularly - more often if you have had high blood pressure readings in the past.

High blood pressure puts stress on most of the body since every part of you needs proper blood flow to function. High blood pressure can cause further complications for anyone that has heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke, impaired vision, and kidney disease. Generally speaking, the higher the blood pressure the greater the risk. Having your blood pressure checked often will help you to take preventative action as soon as you know your blood pressure has started climbing.

Blood pressure readings are classified in one of four categories devised by The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institutes. It will either be normal (reading below 120 on the top and below 80 on the bottom), prehypertension (120-139 top, 80-89 bottom), hypertension stage 1 (140-159 top, 90-99 bottom), or hypertension stage 2 (over 160 top, over 100 bottom). The top number is the systolic number and the bottom is diastolic number. Systolic is measured while the heart contract and pushes the blood to fill up the arteries. Diastolic is measured while the heart fills itself back up with blood. There are cases where only the top number will be high. This is referred to as isolated systolic hypertension.

High blood pressure is said to effect more than half the population over the age of 65 and increases chances for stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. While the elderly are more at risk it can strike at any age. You’ll find information on high blood pressure statistics, guidelines, diet options and of course medications.

If you look up the different medication options you will find a wide spectrum of choices. For the health nut there are special diets and exercise routines that will allow you to lower it naturally and meditation methods that keep you calm and relaxed.

For the health conscious but not so nuts about it there are the all health pills that work with your body and the things you eat to help you keep the numbers lower. The drug is called Circulin. The makers of Circulin claim it is an all-natural mix of ingredients to relax and smooth the muscles of veins and arteries. The lists of alternative drugs become very extensive and your doctor is typically the best place to look for advice. Be aware of the possible side effects of any drug. If it’s not working out for you try another one. There is bound to be a method that will work well for you.
