Farsightedness: Lasik Surgery for Farsightedness, Hyperopia Farsightedness

The eye is an organ of vision of light sensitivity. It helps you see things and distinguish colors. Without the eye, you will not be able to enjoy your surrounding vividly.

To function properly, your eye needs to be able to focus on nearby images as well as distant objects clearly. This ability may change starting age 40, where you may experience weakening of the ciliary muscle. Thus, the flexibility of the lenses decreases due to this muscle weakening.

What is Farsightedness?

Farsightedness is an eye disorder that makes sufferer unable to see nearby object and blurred distant images. Only object at a specific distance will be seen by the sufferer to be clear.

Causes of Farsightedness

Commonly, farsighted individuals are those above 40 years old. This is because of weakened ciliary muscle, making your eyes focusing ability to be distorted.

Other causes may be your eye anatomy. How does eye anatomy com into play here? This is because people with short eyeballs suffer from farsightedness. The focus of their vision reflects at the back of the retina rather than directly on it.

Common signs and symptoms of farsigtedness

About a quarter of the population are found to be suffering from farsightedness or hyperopia. It is therefore necessary that you read below to understand if your eye problem is that of farsightedness:

  • Difficulty seeing close object, thus, it is called farsightedness; you see object clearer if is it distant. This is a common case among older people because their ciliary muscles may be starting to weaken.
  • Blurred vision. Because of the inability of the eye to focus, the images that reflect in the eye focus behind the retina rather than directly on it. Thus, aside from the difficulty to see nearby objects, the eyes see blurred object from afar. Only at a certain distance where the eye will be able to focus well. Another reason of blurred vision is the inability to provide variance of focal lengths; it thus results in various vision problems, like unclear and blurred images.
  • Eye fatigue and eye strain. Headaches with pulling or burning sensation in and around the eye may be experienced by aging patients due to the weakening of the muscles around the eye. This decreases the flexibility of the lenses and thus focusing on objects may be difficult.

As the natural reaction of your body to internal malfunction, active organs force itself to see things. The muscles therefore are forced to react to the commands of the brains. Because of this, the weak muscles calls for rescue, the adrenaline glands then kick in. The stress that the weak muscles experience causes pain in the head, including the pulling and burning sensation mentioned.

  • Cross-eyes. Farsightedness or the pathological condition called hyperopia, may also affect children. Studies show that farsightedness may be inherited. Some children outgrow this condition as the eyeball enlarges while the child grows.

For some, however, it may need correction by wearing converging or corrective lenses early.

Treatments for farsightedness

Treatment of farsightedness varies depending on the severity of the condition; this is what science call refractive error. Refractive error varies from +2.00 diopters to +5.25 diopters.

Low diopter such as those +2.00 and below, the condition may be corrected by wearing eyeglasses with corrective lenses overtime.

For severe cases such as +5.25 or more diopters, treatment may include refractive surgery such as LASIK, Clear Lens Extraction and Replacement or Intraocular Contact Lenses.

Because treatment varies and various examinations needs to be performed, if you are experiencing any or all of the symptoms mentioned, visit your eye doctor and have yourself checked.

Farsightedness is a condition commonly experienced by people starting at age 40, if you experience this earlier, there is a possibility that the cause of your farsightedness is an eye imperfection. This may possibly be passed on to your offspring.

Understating its cure may help avoid the transfer to your children. It is therefore necessary to have an eye doctor check your condition and treat the problem immediately.
