Signs and Symptoms of acute gout

• Sudden, severe joint pain in one or more joints (typically big toe, ankle, wrist or elbow)
• severe attacks of pain
• Joint may be stiff, red, swollen and hot
• Deposits of uric acid crystals around joints and other areas such as the ears
• swelling
• Tenderness around an affected joint
• Moving the affected limb/s becomes painful
• skin over the deposits develop sores and release a white pus
• Sometimes white chalky matter leaks from joint
• Fever

In addition, uric acid crystals can also collect in the kidneys and cause kidney stones. Drugs and attention to diet can control gout.
