Vitiligo Association With Other Conditions

ALOPECIA AREATA

It has been reported that Vitiligo can have an association with alopecia areata these are patches of baldness on your scalp. Alopecia may develop in areas with vitiliginous or normally pigmented skin. Falling of the hair may precede this. It has been known that the new hair in a patch of alopecia areata regaining its pillary growth is often gray.

GREYNESS OF HAIR

The premature grayness of hair can represent a type of Vitiligo. In some cases with people with Vitiligo, it is reported that grayness of hair can happen at a much younger age it is also frequently seen in relatives of vitiliginous individuals.

SYSTEMIC DISEASES

There is sometimes an association of Vitiligo with thyroid dysfunction, especially with thyrotoxicosis. The gland plays the role of controlling the body's metabolism. It does this by producing thyroid hormones that tells the body how to use up your energy and how fast to work. As Vitiligo could be related to other functions within your body you need a properly functioning Thyroid because it is important in treating Vitiligo. A doctor can arrange a blood test to make sure you have no Thyroid problems.
