Knee Pain Relief

Knee pain may be caused by an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage, or a medical condition, including arthritis, gout and infections.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture may be the way to go when it comes to treating the pain of knee osteoarthritis (OA), according to a study in a recent issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. In the study, German researchers randomly assigned more than 1,000 people with knee OA to receive 10 sessions of traditional Chinese acupuncture, 10 sessions of sham acupuncture (needles were inserted in the skin but not in accepted acupuncture spots) or 10 doctor's visits over six weeks.

Pain relief after surgery

The goals of postoperative pain management are to enable you to do the required physical therapy and to minimize pain and stress. If a general or spinal anesthesia was used during your surgery, postoperative pain relief may be delivered intravenously. You will be able to control the flow of medication, within preset limits, as you feel the need for additional relief. This process is often referred to as patient-controlled anesthesia, or PCA.
