Bradykinesia - Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment of Bradykinesia

What is Bradykinesia?

Bradykinesia the condition in which there is abnormally slowness in movement of the body and limbs and slowness of speech, as may be caused by parkinsonism. Bradykinesia is the mixture of two words i.e. bradys means slow and kinesis means movement therefore in together it makes slow movement. It causes smooth muscle to contract. It is also a powerful dilator of veins and arteries.

Causes of Bradykinesia

  • Depression
  • Dementia
  • It may occur as a symptoms of some disease like Parkinson's disease.
  • It may occur because of the side effects of certain medicine

Symptoms of Bradykinesia

A person can experience the following symptoms in this disease

  • Anxiety
  • Lower back pain
  • Fatigue
  • Bloody nose (sign)

Treatment of Bradykinesia

  • Oral L-DOPA is useful for the treatment of parkinsonism.
  • Combination of carbidopa and Sinemet®. is useful to deliver L-DOPA to the brain.
  • Some time side effects of some medicine may occur and these are nausea, diarrhea, and low blood pressure.
  • Ondansetron is useful to treat nausea.
  • Some medicine like anticholinergics, dopamine agonists (pramipexole, ropinirole, bromocriptine, pergolide), amantadine, selegiline, and entacapone. are prescribed good for the children.
