Acetaminophen Recall - acetaminophen hydrocodone, propoxyphene and acetaminophen codeine

Acetaminophen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. It does not relieve the stiffness, redness, and swelling of arthritis.

Specimen:

2 ml serum from 1Red Top (No Additive) tube. Do not use SST gel barrier tube. Ship refrigerated or frozen. To evaluate possible hepatotoxicity, samples should be drawn at least twice, preferably four hours apart.

Method :

Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay

Value:

Therapeutic: 10-20 ug/mL

Toxic: 200-300 ug/mL (4 hours)
          50 ug/mL or more (12 hours)

Therapeutic doses of acetaminophen peak in 30-60 minutes with a half-life of approximately 2-3 hours.
