Dealing With Unwanted Pregnancies
Ending your pregnancy
It is not easy to make a decision about ending a pregnancy that is unwanted. Accidental pregnan-cies can happen to anyone. In many cases such pregnancies can be so unexpected that can ruin one’s life. A negative perception on abortions still prevail in many countries where it may even be illegal. A decision about ending pregnancy needs to be made quickly before it is nine weeks long. The best way to avoid incidents of dealing with unwanted pregnancies is by using appro-priate contraceptives. It includes a certain form of birth control, intrauterine device, cervical cap, or injection.
When abortion is necessary
The only way to stop pregnancy is to have an abortion. It is dangerous to use any physical ways or tools to end pregnancy, especially when using sharp objects or by hitting your stomach. These actions can lead to infections and even death. When deciding to have an abortion without having access to a medical practitioner it is best to consult a friend beforehand.
Types of abortions available
There are two types of abortions, surgical and medical. Medical abortion can be used if preg-nancy is between seven and nine weeks, and involves taking two pills. The first pill blocks the hormone that allows for insemination. The second pill causes the uterine mucosa to be excreted through bleeding along with the embryo. It is the safest and most non-invasive method of stop-ping a pregnancy. Abortions can end in death if they are not done in the right way. Medical abor-tion induces miscarriage while it is also more expensive than a surgical abortion.
Side effects of medical abortion
Medications can cause contractions in the uterus that results in excretion of gestational tissue. There is a certain risk of strong bleeding when using such medications and medical assistance is necessary. If there are complications associated with miscarriage, a doctor may need to be con-sulted. Such doctor will treat the patient as if it was the case of a regular miscarriage. If preg-nancy is longer than nine weeks other methods should be used.
When medications fail
A medically induced abortion should only be employed if you are healthy. It should be avoided if your pregnancy is outside the uterus. In this case a gynecologist should be consulted who can deal with it even in countries where abortions are illegal. If your abortion doesn’t result in mis-carriage after taking your medication, the fetus may be harmed. Medications that induce miscar-riage are available in pharmacies. Doctors can also prescribe such medications. Their side effects may include nausea and diarrhea. There is also a strong bleeding present for the first two to three hours. If bleeding doesn’t stop, a doctor needs to be consulted because there is a chance that the miscarriage is only partial. Other side effects include shivers and high body temperature. If your temperature persists there is a possibility of infection.
Other abortion types and options
Another method called vacuum suction involving removing the fetus from the uterus through suction. It also is followed by bleeding that lasts for up to two weeks. A surgical abortion in-volves removing the fetus with forcepes. Any late abortion that needs to be done when your pregnancy is longer than 24 weeks involves surgery.
