Canker Sore Mouth - Picture, Cause and Treatment for Cold and White Sore in Mouth

Subject: A Sore Mouth

Question
I have painful mouth ulcers, a problem which started at 20 and continues till today (I am 30+). I have noticed that whenever I take a course of A to Z multivitamins, the condition never arises, but as soon as I stop, it recurs. Do I have to take A to Z throughout my life? I have heard that one shouldn't take multivitamins for more than 3 months at a stretch.
Doctors say that the ulcers are due to gastrointestinal problems, but I have taken meds for those. The stomach is cured but not the mouth. So can only A to Z help me?
Please advice.

Answer
You suffer from a condition called recurrent apthous ulceration. There are three types: (a) Minor (Mikulicz's apthae); (b). Major type (Sutton's apthae); (c). Herpetiform type.

The cause of this condition is unknown. Stress, diet, gastrointestinal disturbances and viral infection are all implicated. There may also be a correlation with the pre-menstrual phase.

The treatment is only symptomatic, using local anaesthestic gels or steroid ointments in severe cases. If A to Z keep the ulcers away feel free to use them. You don't need to worry about overdosing on a multivitamin.

Health Tip

Brushing your teeth immediately after dinner can help resist the evening-snack urge. The minty toothpaste flavour signals that eating is over for the day.
