Raynaud's Syndrome

In Raynaud's syndrome blood flow towards body extremities area becomes because of cold condition and emotional stress. Fingers, toes, lip, nose or ears become white, blue and red colored in Raynaud's syndrome. If other diseases associated with Raynaud's syndrome then it is called as secondary Raynaud's syndrome. Generally women are more affected than men. In many cases cause remain unknown but normally happen because of cold climate.

Two forms of Raynaud's Syndrome

Raynaud's syndrome is classified as primary or the secondary form. Primary Raynaud's syndrome is also known as Raynaud's disease or primary Raynaud's syndrome. When Raynaud's syndrome is arise as a result of other disease then it is referred as secondary Raynaud's syndrome. Occurrence of secondary Raynaud's syndrome is less common but more complex and serious as compared to primary Raynaud's syndrome.

Causes of Raynaud's Syndrome

  • Cold temperature
  • Emotional stress
  • Extra drinking or smoking
  • Other diseases like scleroderma or lupus

Symptoms of Raynaud's Syndrome

  1. Color change occurs in the area like fingers, toes, nose, lip etc. First it becomes white then change to blue and when turning to normal situation then color change to red.
  2. Affected area becomes insensitive and sometimes pain, irritation and swelling may occur during recovery process.
  3. It mostly affects fingers and toes and sometimes also occurs along with other diseases.

How to Cure Raynaud's Syndrome

  • Drugs - Medicines like vasodilators, calcium channel blockers, nifedipine or diltiazem are commonly recommended to cure Raynaud's syndrome.
  • Surgery - Sympathectomy operation is also carried out to treat Raynaud's syndrome but is used in very rare cases.
  • Other Therapies - Laser treatment, Paraffin treatment and Biofeedback are also helpful in the treatment of Raynaud's Syndrome.
  • Home Remedies - Chelidonium remedy, Zinziber officinalis, Ginkgo biloba etc. are useful to cure Raynaud's syndrome.
  • Stay away from stressful situation and cold temperature to reduce chances of disorder.
  • Avoid drinking and smoking as it constricts blood vessels and wear gloves and socks in cold climate.
